‘Rampside on a summer day’

Thomas Lawson was incumbent of Rampside Chapel. His lodging with Thomas Hutton where Fox took refuge after being beaten up on Walney was probably at Bow Windows Farm on the Roa Island Road (though the datestone there says ‘1654’). Thomas Hutton also became a Quaker; his only daughter and heir Dorothy married William Rawlinson on 15 July 1662 at Gleaston, and his granddaughter Lydia Lancaster was a famous 18th-century Quaker preacher.
