a Market town; upon a Markett day:
This may have been Askrigg (see link on Long Journal text). If so, it follows rather quickly upon the descent from Pendle Hill (‘and so y:e next day ...’). The chronology in the Short Journal is often difficult to reconcile with that of the Long Journal: for example, the visit to the kinsman of John Blaykling who offered him money comes immediately aftr Pendle Hill in the Short Journal, but not until well into the journey through the Dales in the Long Journal.
