and some people was convinced that way and stood faithful to God
and Christ and his teaching.

And soe I returned back Into Westmoreland again & spoake
through Kendall vpon a markett day in ye dreadefull powr of
God yt people flew like chaffe ʌ
before mee into there houses & warned
ym of ye mighty day of ye Lorde & how yt ye Ld God was come
to teach his people himselfe. & many people tooke my parte
& seuerall was convinct: & some people att last fell to fightinge
about mee & I went & spoake to ym & they parted again;

& ye:
first day after I had a mighty meetinge at Miles Batemans aforesd
where many was convinct*

And so I returned back Into Westmorland again, and spoke
through Kendal upon a market day in the dreadful power of
God, that people flew like chaff before me into their houses; and warned
them of the mighty day of the Lord, and how that the Lord God was come
to teach his people himself. And many people took my part,
and several was convinced; and some people at last fell to fighting
about me, and I went and spoke to them, and they parted again.
And the first day after I had a mighty meeting at Miles Bateman’s aforesaid where many was convinced.

over all: yt: preist Bennett saide ye steeplehouse shooke & hee

feare: speakinge a few confused words: & ye Lords power was ouer ym all
though there was a many preists: & they had noe power as yett to

And after I had travailed up and down in those countries, and
had great meetings, I came to Swarthmoor again.

went down, and went into the steeplehouse in the dread and power of the
Lord; and when the priest had done, I spoke amongst them the word of the
Lord, which was as a hammer and a fire amongst them; and though Lampitt
had been at variance with most of the priests before, yet against the truth
he and| they all joined together, and the mighty power of the Lord was so
over all, that Priest Bennett said the steeplehouse shook, and he
was afraid, and trembled, and thought that the steeplehouse would fall on his head, and went his ways out for
fear, speaking a few confused words: and the Lords power was over them all,
though there was a many priests; and they had no power as yet to
persecute.

I asked ym: whether any of ym: coulde say they
euer had a worde from
ye Lorde to goe & speake to
such ʌor such a
people; & none of ym durst say |
soe: but one of ym: burst out Into a passion & saide hee coulde
speake his experiences as well as I: butt I tolde him experience
was one thinge but to goe with a message & a worde from ye
Ld as ye prophetts & ye Apostles had & did: & as I had

And after, I came up to Swarthmoor, and there came up 4 or 5 priests, and
I asked them, ‘Whether any of them could say they ever had a word from
the Lord to go and speak to such or such a people’; and none of them durst
say | so; but one of them burst out into a passion, and said, ‘He could
speak his experiences as well as I’; but I told him, ‘Experience
was one thing: but to go with a message and a word from the
Lord as the prophets and the Apostles had and did, and as I had
