(74) wiffe throweinge stones att my face & J: Lancaster her
husbande was lyinge a toppe of mee to saue ye blowes &
ye stones off mee:

Soe att last I gott vppe in ye power of God ouer ym all
& they beate mee doune Into ye boate: & soe Ja:
Lancastere came Into ye boate to mee: & soe hee
sett mee ouer ye water: & I

* And Ja: Naylor wee saw afterwards yt they was beateinge
of mee him for hee went whilst they was beatinge off
mee hee walkt vppe Into a feilde & they neuer minded
him till I was gonne & then they fell vpon hime
& all there cry was kill him kill him:

And when I came on ye other sÿde off ye water to ye
tounde againe: all ye tounde risse vppe with pitch forkes
fleales & staffes & mucke hookes to keepe me out
of ye tounde & cryed kill him knocke him in ye heade
bringe ye cart & carry him away to ye graue yarde

And soe they abused mee & guarded mee with all these
weapons a pretty way off out of ye tounde & then att last
the Lords power beinge over ym all: they left mee;

And then Ja: Lancaster went backe againe to looke after
Ja: Naylor: soe I was alone & came to a ditch of water
& washed mee for they had all dirted mee: & wett & mired my
cloaths face & handes.

Soe I walkt a matter of three miles to Tho: Huttons where
Tho: Lawson ye preist lodged yt was convinct: & I coulde
haredly speak to ym when I came in I was soe bruised

X & soe I tolde y:m where I left Ja: Nailor X & they went &
tooke each of y:m a horse & went & brought him thither yt
night

And I went to bed but I was soe weake with bruises
I was not alble to turne mee: & ye next day they

So at last, I got up in the power of God over them all,
and they beat me down into the boat; and so James
Lancaster came into the boat to me, and so he
set me over the water.

* And James Naylor we saw afterwards that they was beating
of him; for whilst they was beating of
me he walked up into a field, and they never minded
him till I was gone; and then they fell upon him
and all their cry was, ‘Kill him, kill him!’

And when I came on the other side of the water to the
town again, all the town rose up with pitchforks,
flails, and staves, and muck-hooks, to keep me out
of the town, and cried, ‘Kill him, knock him in the head;
bring the cart and carry him away to the graveyard’.

And so they abused me and guarded me with all these
weapons a pretty way off out of the town; and then at last
the Lord’s power being over them all, they left me.

And then James Lancaster went back again to look after
James Naylor, so I was alone; and came to a ditch of water
and washed me, for they had all dirtied me, and wet and mired my
clothes, face, and hands.

So I walked a matter of three miles to Thomas Hutton’s where
Thomas Lawson the priest lodged that was convinced: and I could
hardly speak to them when I came in, I was so bruised.

took each of them a horse; and went, and brought him thither that
