Dr Kirk Luther has been awarded the 2019 European Association of Psychology and Law (EAPL) Early Career Award.

This award is given to one person each year across Europe, who has demonstrated an exceptional track record (within 5-years post-PhD) and shows promise in becoming a future leader in the area of Psychology and Law.

Dr Luther said: “I am incredibly honoured and humbled to receive the Early Career Award from the EAPL and be recognised by my peers as an emerging leader in the field of Psychology and the Law. This work would not be possible without a hard-working and dedicated team of students and mentors and I am indebted to them for their support.”

Dr Luther joined Lancaster University as a 50th Anniversary Lecturer in Investigative Expertise in 2017.

He is constantly striving to carry out meaningful, ground-breaking, and innovative research that addresses real-world problems.

His research aims to improve the criminal justice system, with an emphasis on advancing investigative interviewing practices and the protection of human rights of vulnerable populations – ensuring that adults and young people understand their legal rights when questioned by the police.

To date, Dr Luther has published numerous articles on the aforementioned topics and has supported his work through numerous grants, including an ESRC New Investigator award.
