Important Changes to the Sports Centre

We've implemented new rules to help keep everybody safe when using the Sports Centre facilities. Please be sure to read all of the information below before attending any session or class and adhere to the rules at all times when using the Sports Centre.

I have read & understood the above information in relation to the class or session I am booking and would like to proceed.

Please read carefully

Here are some of the measures that we need to make you aware of before you enter the Sports Centre. If you are booking a session or class, please make sure you read the associated information in the table below in addition to reading the following:

Please note that it is compulsory to wear a face mask in the communal areas of our facilities.

It is essential that all activity bookings are made in advance online or by phone.

We are working to Government, National Governing Body guidelines and teams across Lancaster University on plans to bring back sporting activities to our campus in a safe and controlled environment.

We have implemented new protocols for the indoor and outdoor facilities; to ensure social distancing and facilities are operated safely. Things will be different but we believe we can offer a safe and relaxed environment for you to train.

The Sports Centre is operating one-way circulation routes in parts of the building. These are clearly signposted so please be sure to follow the directional signage at all times.

Keeping a safe distance

A one-way system has been introduced; we ask you to follow this.

We’ve created the space you need to work out while keeping a safe distance. Activity areas have been rearranged and clearly marked out for you to use safely, so it is easy for everyone to follow. We'll also control the numbers for each activity at any given time so it never gets too busy.

Hand Sanitisers

Hand sanitisers are provided in key locations and hands should be sanitised prior to entering the building and when leaving. In addition to these hands should be cleaned before and when leaving activity areas to keep you and others safe. Please wash your hands at every opportunity and avoid unnecessary contact with equipment, maintaining social distancing at all times.

Self-cleaning stations

A self-cleaning cleaning station is located in the gym, sports halls, studios and climbing wall so you can clean your kit before and after use.

Track & Trace

A temporary record of customers and visitors will be kept for 21 days.

There will be no safety inductions until further notice therefore the gym and climbing wall will be restricted to customers who have already used the facilities before.

Cleaning

Your safety is our top priority, equipment and surfaces will be cleaned by the team throughout the day and after each session. An extensive clean will take place at the end of each day with disinfectant so you can train in confidence. Gym users will need to clean equipment they have handled after each use, with the disinfectant provided.

Equipment and Kit

Personal belongings should be kept to a minimum, towels are not permitted in activity areas. Locker space will be limited and will only be made available for essential items. Please bring your own kit to sessions where necessary. Kit cannot be shared, borrowed or hired; this includes yoga mats and swimming equipment.

To reduce the number of touchpoints, please bring your own drinking bottles pre-filled.

Capacity

Some classes will not take place due to social distancing however, more classes will be put on to ensure there is something for everyone. All sessions and activities must be pre-booked online. Bookings and payment if applicable can be made up to 7 days in advance on-line or by phone this is to ensure as little contact as possible (please see opening times). Session times have been limited to ensure customers have a safe environment to train and the opportunity to train every day.

Staff Training and Expertise

All staff have been fully trained on our new hygiene, cleaning and safety measures to ensure these are delivered to a high standard.

Changing rooms

Changing rooms are not available therefore we request that you arrive ready to start your activity and shower at home.

Toilets

Toilets are available on both floors.

Bookings

  • Using the pool

    Before arrival

Please do not come to the Centre is you are showing any signs of COVID-19. If symptoms appear within 2 weeks of visiting the Centre, please contact us to report it.

Arrive ready to swim - through the changing rooms are open, the capacity of them is greatly reduced. Please arrive with swimwear under your clothing to help minimise the time spent in the changing rooms. Please shower at home, pre and post swimming to help maintain water quality in the pool.

You should bring your own equipment/PPE ensuring it is clean and identifiable as yours before you arrive.

Swimmers must be able to swim 50 meters competently and be confident swimming in deep water.

    In the Sports Centre

Arrive at the Centre 5 minutes before your session booking time and please do not be late. This is to control the number of people in the building and using the swimming facilities.

Please wash your hands at every opportunity and use hand sanitiser when entering and leaving the building. Social distancing must be maintained at all times, including in the changing facilities and pool.

    In the pool

Please respect the varying standards and abilities of others in the pool. Do not make physical contact with other swimmers and maintain a safe distance. Choose your lane using the fast, medium and slow signs and by watching those already swimming. Please do not overtake whilst swimming and follow the directional signage.

Swim in a lane appropriate to your swimming ability/speed and be aware of those behind you. Allow faster swimmers to pass you at the end of each length. Move to the edge of the lane you are in at the end of each length. Move to the edge of the lane and turn your head away.

If you are continually being passed please consider moving to a slower lane.

If using equipment such as kick boards or pull buoys, consider moving to a slower lane temporarily so you do not hinder others swimming full strokes.

Whether stopping for a rest or catching your breath after completing your swim, please be mindful that others using the lane will want to keep on swimming without stopping; so keep yourself to the edge of the lane allowing others to turn at the wall, turning head away and allowing others to maintain social distancing measures.

Stay hydrated by bringing your own ‘prefilled’ water bottle on to the poolside during your swim. If you need to take a drink, please exit the pool and use the designated area on poolside.

Backstroke is not permitted due to lack of visibility when swimming.

    Diving is not permitted.
