Get involved in this term’s healthy living activities

Wooden heart filled with healthy fruit and vegetables

This term we see the launch of Lancaster university’s healthy living campaign. It provides a range of activities for staff and students to make healthy lifestyle choices, focusing on a healthier mind, body, pocket and planet.

Whether it’s trying a new exercise, making nutritious food and drink choices, or simply taking some time to sit back and socialise, there’s plenty going on this term to help you feel healthy in body and mind.

As part of the campaign the Sports Centre is launching new Les Mills group fitness classes with a week-long special offer of £3 per class for pay as you play and 10% discount on 3-month Platinum memberships. There is also the opportunity to receive a free health assessment using a Tanita Body Scan machine, the perfect way to help you kick your new year off the right way! If slow motion exercise is more your thing then you can try Virtual Tai Chi to revitalise yourself for the day ahead. There are also outdoor activities such as the Walk & Talk sessions where you can enjoy some led walks around campus.

New food options include:

  • Healthy grab and go lunch options with the Bailrigg Food Co’s new range of fresh, homemade wraps available from the Marketplace and the Hub
  • A brand new Mac ‘n’ No Cheese, much lighter than the original with fresh vegan tomato sauce instead available at the Deli

As well as healthier food options there are promotions to make sure your pocket stays healthy too. The Deli is offering soup for just £1 extra when you buy any sandwich. The HIVE at the Health Innovation campus is running ‘free food Fridays,’ simply collect stamps by buying breakfast or lunch Monday – Thursday and get one of the two free on Friday! If you need a morning or afternoon healthy snack grab a piece of free fruit from University House reception to see you through the day.

Green Lancaster will be continuing to help achieve a healthier planet during the campaign, join the team's weekly ECOWoods sessions and take part in hands-on conservation work. The sessions will take place every Friday either at Forrest Hills or on campus and include activities such as tree planting, spring bulb planting and wildflower meadow, hedgerow & woodland management.
