I’m Harry Newton, I was born and raised in Tameside, just outside of Manchester. Currently, I’m in the first year of my PhD on the University of Lancaster’s Statistics and Operational Research Institutes’ Doctoral Training Programme; known succinctly as STOR-i DTP. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the summer of 2022 and a year prior to joining STOR-i, I obtained by MPhys Physics degree in the beautiful but very hilly City of Sheffield, during the end of which I specialised in Biological Physics. The scope of my dissertation project worked around liquid liquid phase separation as it relates to cellular membraneless organelles; structures which maintain their cohesion in a similar manner to oil droplets behaviour in water. Following my graduation I worked as a part time Maths & Physics tutor for Sixth Form and Secondary School students; work that was truly rewarding and helped keep my mind sharp. I am truly passionate about all forms of knowledge, but most of all I wish to understand how the physical and our societal world works. A quest that began in Physics and has now led me to STOR-i!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Outside of Work & Academia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

My enthusiasm aside, not all of my life revolves around work and study. In my spare time I enjoy playing the violin, a skill I’ve been teaching myself over the last 2 years…I’m getting there. As for the outdoors I enjoy hiking and bouldering, and the occasional Hitchhike. My greatest love is reading; I’ll pretty much read anything but above all, and as you would probably expect, my favourite genre is science fiction.
