My primary research interest is developing statistical models, in particular latent variable models, for humanitarian decision making. My supervisors are <a href=\"https:\/\/gabrieltwallin.github.io\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/gabrieltwallin.github.io\/\">Gabriel Wallin<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/scholar.google.com\/citations?user=_Gh-XMwAAAAJ&amp;hl=en\">Rachel McCrea<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/maths\/people\/jessica-bridgen2\">Jess I presented my work on mixed-resolution latent variable models for mapping deprivation and social unrest.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I was invited to present at the &#8220;Next-Generation Factor Models for Social Data Science&#8221; workshop at Kyushu University, Japan in July 2026.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For June-August 2026, I am supervising a summer research student at STOR-i with a project on the causes of multi-dimensional poverty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>My Journey<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I graduated in 2025 with a <strong>Masters in Research <\/strong>from Lancaster University; during the course of this degree, I began my research collaboration with British Red Cross.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I worked as a <strong>Technical Business Analyst <\/strong>from 2023-24, where I gained skills in SQL, data-analysis and professional code-writing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I graduated in 2023 with a <strong>Masters in Mathematics <\/strong>from Durham University.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Educational Outreach<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In August 2026, I presented about the PhD experience at STOR-i and answered questions from undergraduates doing a summer research placement at Lancaster University.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In January 2026, I attended Glasgow University and presented on my research and academic journey to undergraduates.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I worked at the PhD Your Way event to encourage students from underrepresented groups to consider a PhD in mathematics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I have worked in educational outreach<strong> <\/strong>for Durham University&#8217;s Levelling Up Programme, Problem Solving Matters, Young Minds Big Maths and The Sutton Trust.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Other Interests<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I also enjoy playing chess and am proud to be in the top 100 female players in England as of January 2025 (see <a href=\"https:\/\/rating.englishchess.org.uk\/v2\/new\/list_top_players.php?env=N&amp;domain=S&amp;age_class=none&amp;age_col=age31dec&amp;gender=female&amp;nation=ENG&amp;type=rating\">ECF Top Players<\/a> to check if this is still true).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I also work as a Chess Coach for junior players, and taught three classes and ran a chess club at St Stephens&#8217;
