I went straight into journalism after this, working at a capital markets newspaper during a long period of crisis and unconventional monetary policy in global financial markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During my career I became increasingly aware of \u2014 and more interested in \u2014 the ways in which individuals and institutions use statistics to understand what is going on in the world and to inform decisions. I began studying statistics part-time, alongside my job, at Birkbeck College, University of London. I completed a Graduate Certificate in Statistics before going on to Birkbeck\u2019s MSc in Applied Statistics, taking some option modules in operational research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am excited to have the opportunity at STOR-i to deepen my knowledge of key topics in Statistics and OR before exploring areas of cutting-edge research and the practical problems that motivate them.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&nbsp;was drawn to STOR-i\u2019s combination of academic excellence, focus on real world applications and supportive team atmosphere.
