Welcome Week

Get ready to enrol at Lancaster University

Welcome Week

Welcome Week - sometimes known as freshers' week - takes place each year at the start of the Michaelmas term in September/October. It is a programme of activities organised for new students starting at Lancaster University and includes events such as College welcome sessions, guided campus tours, registration and social activities.

University registration

At registration, in order to comply with Tier 4 rules:

  • You must present your passport and entry clearance visa or Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) so we can scan these into your student record
  • You must provide the original documents that were used to obtain your offer, ie your certificates, transcripts, SELT/English language certificate
  • If you were required to apply for an ATAS certificate then you should also provide a copy of this at registration.

If you do not have the correct visa for studies at Lancaster or all the originals of the documents used for your offer then we will not be able to register you.

Police registration

Some foreign nationals are required by law to register with the police while studying in the UK.

Police registration is done online via the Lancashire Police portal. As part of the online process, you will be offered an appointment with the police to provide your documents and finalise your registration. Please read this information before starting your online registration via the Lancashire Police portal.‌ You could be fined £5,000 and jailed for 6 months if you do not register in accordance with your visa requirements. Late registration could affect any future visa applications.

New arrivals

Your entry clearance visa will confirm whether you are required to register with the police. If you are, you must do so within 7 days of arriving in the UK. You should follow the process on the Lancashire Police portal.

Changes in circumstances

If you were required to register with the police and you have a change in circumstances, you will need to report this online to Lancashire Police within 7 days. Changes include:

You should report all changes via the Lancashire Police online portal.

Police registration lost or stolen

You should only apply for a new certificate once all methods of finding the original certificate have been exhausted. You will be asked about the circumstances surrounding the loss or theft of your certificate during your appointment with the police.
