Estranged students are those who have no contact with their families because it is not possible or unsafe for them to do so. This may be for a number of reasons, such as abuse, disagreements over religion, sexuality or not meeting the core values of the family.
Lancaster University recognises that there may be increased financial pressure placed on students that are estranged from their families and for the 19/20 academic year have introduced a new bursary package to assist with this situation.
If you are under 25 and have provided evidence to Student Finance regarding your estrangement, they will email you to confirm if this has been accepted. A copy of this email can be submitted with your application to apply for this bursary. If you not have applied to Student Finance as being estranged and require assistance with this process please make an appointment with The Student Funding Service who can offer advice and guidance.
Currently the Estranged Student Bursary is only available for the 19/20 academic year as funding has not been guaranteed for future years. If the bursary will be available for future years The Funding Service will contact you with further details.

If estrangement has occured part way through the academic year we would advise making an appointment with the Funding Service for further advice and assistance.
