Students enrolled on a degree course but studying away from the University are NOT ELIGIBLE for Title IV aid. An alternative option might be a private loan. Private student loans are non-federal loans. Currently there is only one Private Education Loan provider who provides loans to students at Foreign Schools known as Sallie Mae.
The University would encourage any students who are eligible for a Federal Loan to utilise this type of aid in the first instance - a comparison of Federal and Private loans can be found at Federal Student Aid.
How it is paid
Loans are normally disbursed in four instalments and paid directly to the University via Western Union. We will automatically deducted any tuition fees and accommodation fees (if living on campus). Any remaining monies will be then be paid directly into your bank account. If you are a distance learner (non campus based) we will pay this money directly into your local US Bank account. Please note that it may take up to fourteen days for the money to clear into a UK bank account.

The Student Funding Service at Lancaster University will automatically receive your loan application once you have made your application with Sallie Mae. We will then contact you to confirm that your loan request has been accepted. You may be required to complete a Cost of Attendance if your loan request is for living costs as well as tuition fee costs.
