What makes a memorable conversation? The ‘In conversation’ webinar series will explore how memorable conversations might emerge from putting together different kinds of voices – such as staff, students and teachers from different disciplines and backgrounds.
They will touch upon their work on embedding peer support through the Manchester Survivor’s Choir (Dr. Hill) as well as informing and incubating justice through the Child and Family Justice Research Centre (Prof. Broadhurst).
An open Q&A will also leave opportunities for your questions about the nature of social work and social solidarity nearly a year into the UK covid-19 pandemic.
Dr. Cath Hill is a Lecturer in Social Work who leads on practice learning in the department. She has a particular specialism in working with young people and the role of social workers in disasters. She is the founder of Manchester Survivors Choir, which is a peer support group for young people affected by terrorism.
Prof. Karen Broadhurst is a Professor of Social Work whose work on child and family justice includes a particular interest in the formal operation of the family courts and related institutions, their impact on family life, as well as alternative problem solving approaches to justice.
The discussion will be chaired by Dr. Jadwiga Leigh, Senior Lecturer in Social Work and Director of New Beginnings Greater Manchester, which supports families involved in child protection processes.
