Curriculum Design in Language Education

Being grounded in empirical research evidence, informed by second language acquisition & learning theories, and driven by practical considerations, this course introduces key principles and procedures of language curriculum design to students with limited or no prior knowledge of curriculum design. It specifically focuses on an examination of factors that inform course construction, an analysis of models of curriculum design and types of language syllabi, an exploration of methods of curriculum evaluation, and an examination of procedures involved in adaptation and design of language teaching materials. Additionally, the course considers ways in which grammar instruction can be integrated into language curricula informed by various language teaching methods.
