Introduction to Medical Education

This module will introduce the theoretical aspects of teaching and learning in medical education, allowing exploration in relation to students' everyday teaching practice. It also introduces and develops the academic skills required at level 7 study, such as searching the relevant educational literature, learning to read critically, reflective writing, and academic writing. Students will cover topics including principles of teaching and facilitating learning, theories and models in relation to working with adult learners, core values in medical education, understanding learners motivation, state of readiness, level of responsibility for learning, desire and preparedness for independent learning, analysing learners’ needs and educational governance in the context of medical education, including the role of the GMC.
