Short-term overseas opportunities
If you are interested in a shorter experience, check out the short-term overseas opportunities available here at Lancaster University.
Summer Exchange Programme
We offer an exchange opportunity during the summer holidays for any current undergraduate Lancaster degree student with EWHA Womans University in Seoul, South Korea. The cost of tuition during the summer school is covered by the exchange programme, but participants would be responsible for their flights, accommodation and living expenses.
This is a great opportunity to try courses unrelated to your major as the credits received during the programme will not count towards your degree. During the summer programme, you will take 2 academic courses, a Korean language course and take part in hands-on cultural excursions.
To be considered for this programme, you need to apply as an exchange student.

Summer and Easter Cultural Programmes
You can go abroad for three weeks in September to China, Ghana, India or Malaysia with other Lancaster University students. Each trip offers a varied and exciting itinerary, giving you both a practical and academic insight into the rich and diverse culture of that country.

The trips are arranged via departments and the Global Experiences team and as part of your first year of study. In 2017/18, students from the Management School, the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion, English Literature & Creative Writing, History, Law and Computing are taking part in the Your Global Exploration trip.
Where: Boston and New York City!
When: Travel will take place for up to ten days in the Easter Vacation, from 2nd April until 13th April.

The Confucius Institute at Lancaster University offers a 10-day language and culture visit to Guangzhou and Beijing in China for students learning Chinese. Most costs in China are covered by the Confucius Institute. Scholarships are also available to study Chinese language and culture at a Chinese University for three months, six months or a year.

Can you get financial assistance?
The Lancaster Global Travel Awards and Santander Flyers Awards are available to students who we believe would be excluded on the basis of cost alone. These awards are given out on a first-come, first-served basis once a student has formally applied for one of our vacation programmes, and can differ in amount depending on the situation a student is in. Priority will be given to students who qualify for the following criteria:
- If the applicant qualifies for a means-tested bursary from the University.
- If the applicant is in the first generation of their family to go to University.
- The personal statement written by the applicant in support of their application.
When applying you will be given the opportunity to confirm you are in need of financial assistance and write a short statement explaining why. We may also use information already supplied to Lancaster University, such as household income, to determine what amount you qualify for.
Students are eligible for our funding once during their time here in Lancaster, to ensure that priority is given to students who haven’t travelled abroad with us before.
When will I receive my award?
Once you have formally applied to be part of the programme, your funding application will be accessed and if successful, the amount of money awarded will be deducted from the overall price of the trip and communicated to you via email with an accurate invoice attached.
College Travel Award
Your college may also be able to offer financial assistance. Please contact your College Manager for more information.
