Course Overview

How are organisations constructed? How do they influence society? How can people management practices influence employee behaviour? If you’re interested in organisational studies, this four-year degree can help you along the path to this career.

In this fascinating degree, you study management theory alongside psychology, sociology and history. You also spend a year in a paid industry placement. We look at areas such as change, leadership and motivation. What are the mechanisms of cultures of organisations? Topics range from the 18th century labour market to contemporary management theories. Our teaching approach blends academic material with practical insights and exercises.

In your first year, you'll gain a solid foundation in Management and Organisation. We will explore how we understand ourselves in relation to work, management and organisation. You will study key issues and debates surrounding technology, globalisation, sustainability and ethics.

Your second year deepens your understanding through studying Business Ethics, Managing People at Work and Organisational Psychology. You can also choose from options such as The Changing Role of Management, Organisational Psychology, Human Resources, Ethics and Sustainability.

You will gain valuable life and work experience on your third-year industry placement. This is a priceless (and paid) opportunity to gain a practical perspective of people management and organisations in the real world.

Organisational Change and Psychological Approaches to Managing Change are covered in your final year. There are also options such as Ethical Responsibility in Business, International Human Resource Management and Organising in the Digital Age.

Our graduates leave with a critical understanding of the complex world of work and organisations. Many go on to work in human resource management while others enter management consultancy, the media or marketing. Some study for their Masters in Human Resource Management.

    GCSE Mathematics grade C or 4, English Language grade C or 4

    Lancaster University offers a range of programmes, some of which follow a structured study programme, and others which offer the chance for you to devise a more flexible programme. We divide academic study into two sections - Part 1 (Year 1) and Part 2 (Year 2, 3 and sometimes 4). For most programmes Part 1 requires you to study 120 credits spread over at least three modules which, depending upon your programme, will be drawn from one, two or three different academic subjects.     Fees

    Our annual tuition fee is set for a 12-month session, starting in the October of your year of study.

    Our Undergraduate Tuition Fees for 2019/20 are:

    Tuition fees for programmes are set annually for all new and continuing students. If you are studying on a course of more than one year’s duration, the fees for subsequent years of your programme are likely to increase each year. Such increases are normally calculated based on increases in the costs incurred by the institution, or in relation to UK government regulations which set the maximum fee for certain categories of student.

    For the majority of undergraduate students, the most recent annual increase was 2.8%. Any change in fee rates will be communicated to students and applicants prior to the start of the academic year in question, and normally at least eight months prior to enrolment.     Channel Islands and the Isle of Man

    Students also need to consider further costs which may include books, stationery, printing, photocopying, binding and general subsistence on trips and visits. Following graduation it may be necessary to take out subscriptions to professional bodies and to buy business attire for job interviews.
