Lancaster University Unconditional Offer Scheme
At Lancaster University we are proud of our reputation for academic excellence and we want to encourage applicants with outstanding academic profiles to study at Lancaster. The Unconditional Offer Scheme enables us to demonstrate to exceptional students our belief that they will continue to excel by choosing to study with us. An offer for a place on our Unconditional Offer Scheme will be made to applicants who have the strongest academic profiles in terms of existing qualifications and predicted grades. Personal statements and references will also be taken into account and, for some courses, an interview will form part of the assessment. The eligibility criteria for the Unconditional Offer Scheme will vary across departments as requirements for specific courses differ. The unconditional offer will be confirmed once a selected applicant has made Lancaster their firm choice on UCAS.

Which subjects are included in the Scheme?
The majority of degree courses are included in the scheme.
How do you determine eligibility for the scheme?
An offer for a place on our Unconditional Offer Scheme will be made to applicants who have the strongest academic profiles in terms of existing qualifications and predicted grades. Personal statements and references will also be taken into account and, for some courses, an interview will form part of the assessment. The eligibility criteria for the Unconditional Offer Scheme will vary across departments as requirements for specific courses differ.
Will I be interviewed as part of the application process?
The requirement of an interview varies across departments and courses. If applicable, the applicant will be contacted directly by the department to organise the interview.
How will I know if I am eligible for the scheme?
Applicants who are eligible for the scheme will be contacted by the department once they have been made an offer by the University. Applicants who are interviewed as part of the scheme will be notified at, or shortly after the interview.
What if I am not studying towards A Levels?
We will consider the full range of academic qualifications as part of the Scheme, including BTECs, International Baccalaureates and combinations of qualifications. We are unable to make an offer under this scheme to applicants taking Access or Foundation qualifications, or those who need to achieve English language proficiency; though these applicants will still, of course, be considered for a conditional offer.
Why are the offers only available to applicants who put Lancaster as their firm choice?
By making an unconditional offer, we are allocating the applicant one of our student places, which are in demand and hence short supply. In return, we want to be sure that the applicant is committed to Lancaster by making us their firm choice.
Can I find out if I am eligible for the scheme before applying?
As eligibility is determined following a full assessment of the applicant’s UCAS application, and some courses require an interview, we are not able to advise on eligibility for the scheme before an application is submitted.
My offer on UCAS says Unconditional, does that mean I am eligible?
Applicants who already meet the published entry requirements may receive an unconditional offer; this is not confirmation that they are eligible for the scheme. The academic department will contact eligible Unconditional Offer Scheme applicants individually to confirm their status. Applicants unsure of their eligibility should contact firstname.lastname@example.org for clarification.
I’ve received a letter informing me I am eligible for an Unconditional Offer but UCAS says my offer is Conditional, what does this mean?
Once an eligible applicant has placed Lancaster University as their firm choice, we will update the offer to unconditional; confirmation of this change will be received via UCAS Track. Applicants who do not wish to take up the offer on the Unconditional Offer Scheme will therefore still be eligible for a conditional offer should they wish to make Lancaster University their insurance choice.
I’ve made Lancaster my firm choice but my offer is still Conditional, why hasn’t it updated?
It can take a couple of days for the status of an offer to change conditional to unconditional once it’s been firmly accepted. Applicants who have any concerns about their offer showing as Conditional, should contact email@example.com.
What if the applicant chooses Lancaster as their insurance choice and not their firm choice?
The conditional offer still stands, but the applicant will not receive the amendment to unconditional and nor will they be eligible for the Excellence Scholarship.
What happens if the applicant doesn’t get their predicted grades?
An unconditional offer demonstrates our view that an applicant is academically gifted and will continue to work hard to achieve their predicted grades. We will still accept applicants with an unconditional offer in the unlikely event that they fail to achieve their predicted grades. Under this scheme, unconditional offer holders who achieve excellence in their qualifications will receive an Excellence Scholarship.
I still want to come to Lancaster but I want to defer, will my unconditional offer stand?
In most cases, yes, applicants who are eligible for the scheme will be eligible to defer their application and still receive all of the benefits of the scheme. Applicants should contact firstname.lastname@example.org should they wish to defer their entry to confirm that it is possible.
I’ve been made an offer but I want to study a different course, will I still be eligible?
Applicants who wish to study a different course should contact email@example.com with details of their query and one of the team will be able to advise whether a course change would be possible.
