Welcome from your course directors
Hello and thank you for your interest in the Lancaster University Cyber Executive MBA programme (CEMBA). We are very excited to launch this new programme – a radical approach to teaching and learning about cyber security leadership.
The CEMBA joins the Lancaster University MBA programme family, which enjoys a rich heritage and engaged community that is over 30 years in the making. Our committed MBA team make sure our programme curriculum is constantly evolving to ensure our graduates acquire the skills, knowledge, and experiences they need to excel in contemporary business environments. The CEMBA programme is evidence of our evolution: cyber security risk is a concern for leaders of all types of organisations. Joining the research and pedagogical expertise of our colleagues in the School of Computing and Communication (SCC) and the Lancaster University Management School (LUMS), the CEMBA programme will help you develop the leadership skills and cyber security literacy you need to navigate increasingly complex work and business contexts.
Partnered with leading external cyber security consultants from Templar Executives and other cyber-related organisations, and taught by international academic experts from LUMS and SCC, the CEMBA programme adopts a practice-based approach to learning the foundational concepts associated with both leadership and management, as well as cyber security risk. Modules and assessments are designed to help you build up your knowledge and use it to reflect and analyse your own organisational context.
CEMBA is intentionally focussed on the interests and needs of middle and senior leaders who work full-time. The postgraduate programme utilises a blended format and consists of 10 core modules that incorporate both business and cyber security topics; two Challenge modules that require you to apply your new knowledge to real cyber security problems; and a workplace-based research dissertation. Core modules follow a similar format: two weeks of online individual preparation; three days of face-to-face engagement at the Lancaster University campus; four weeks of follow-up tutorials and assessment preparation. The programme is 24 months in total.
Practice-based learning is integral to the CEMBA programme, which is why the curriculum includes engagement with programme partners including Templar Executives, guest lectures from our Entrepreneurs, Leaders, and Cyber Leaders in Residence, and relevant business leaders. This approach enables you to make the ‘right’ decisions as a business leader; decisions that ensure the best outcomes, that consider our context, security, opportunity, risk and so much more. Ultimately, you are offered the opportunity to challenge yourself, to develop your mindset and transform yourself into the leader your organisation needs. You will graduate with strategic organisational understanding and cyber security literacy and that allows you to thrive in turbulent and changing situations.
The CEMBA programme is housed in the Lancaster Management School (LUMS) and the School of Computing and Communication (SCC), both accredited by leading business and cyber security groups. LUMS is quadruple accredited by AMBA, AACSB, EQUIS, and Small Business Charter. Lancaster University Management School is ranked 43rd in Europe and 10th in the UK in the Financial Times European Business Schools rankings. Frequently ranked first globally for Corporate Strategy in the Financial Times annual global MBA rankings, the LUMS MBA leads the way in participatory and experience learning for post-experience students.
Lancaster University has a significant reputation in Cyber Security, and is one of only seven universities in the UK, and the only one in Northwest England, which has attained National Cyber Security Centre Accredited Academic Centres of Excellence in Cyber Security Research and Education, coupled with a Certified Master’s Degree.
