The event brought writers, academics and publishers into dialogue, celebrating new creative work through readings and exploring the potential for dialogue between creative and critical writing in the context of journal production, and between writing and a broader socio-political context.<\/p>\n<h2>About the Speakers<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/literature.britishcouncil.org\/shirley-chew\" target=\"_blank\">Shirley Chew<\/a>\u00a0is Professor of Commonwealth and Postcolonial Literatures at the University of Leeds and\u00a0general editor of a major new journal of creative and critical writing, entitled\u00a0<em>Moving Worlds: A Journal of Transcultural Writings<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/literature.britishcouncil.org\/bernardine-evaristo\" target=\"_blank\">Bernardine Evaristo<\/a>, author of <em>Blonde Roots<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>The Emperor&#8217;s Babe<\/em>,\u00a0was born in London to an English mother and\u00a0Nigerian father and\u00a0emerged as a\u00a0successful writer\u00a0during the 1990s.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/literature.britishcouncil.org\/kadija-george\" target=\"_blank\">Kadija George<\/a> is a literary activist, editor and publisher and the founder and managing Editor of <em>Sable Literary Magazine<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/E._A._Markham\" target=\"_blank\">Archie Markham<\/a>\u00a0(1 October 1939 \u2013 23 March 2008) was a poet and writer, known for poetry in both patois and standard English, for short stories and a comic novel.
