{"id":1,"date":"2010-11-05T15:06:23","date_gmt":"2010-11-05T15:06:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/transculturalwriting-archive\/?p=1"},"modified":"2012-02-18T23:34:26","modified_gmt":"2012-02-18T23:34:26","slug":"hello-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/transculturalwriting-archive\/hello-world\/","title":{"rendered":"Mambo Writers Circles reading at Midlands State University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Mambo Writers Circles<\/em>\u00a0was established in 2005 at a workshop organized by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kubatana.net\/html\/sectors\/bud001.asp?like=B&amp;details=Tel&amp;orgcode=bud001\">Budding Writers Association of Zimbabwe<\/a>\u00a0(BWAZ). The initiative reduced in membership when BWAZ Gweru chapter became defunct about six months after the launch of the project. 2010 has been dubbed a year of re-launch following the returning of other members from economical and political exiles.<\/p>\n<p>However a few dedicated writers remained and adhere to the principles of the initiative. There is a periodic writer\u2019s clinic, members&#8217; conduct reviewing and readings of each other\u2019s work &#8211; mainly poetry and prose.<\/p>\n<p>To date the organization has organized many writers\u2019 workshops in Gweru which were facilitated by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.africanbookscollective.com\/publishers\/mambo-press\">Mambo Press<\/a>\u00a0and individual published writers.\u00a0<em>Mambo Writers Circle<\/em>\u00a0has participated in public readings in Gweru and Bulawayo including the recent one which was attended by John Eppel, a prolific Zimbabwean contemporary writer. Mambo Writers Circles has managed to secure space in a local weekly community newspaper to publish poetry under\u00a0<em>Poetry Circles<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Mambo Writers Circle<\/em>\u00a0has survived without recognition of the general public, but is powerfully driven by the principle of promoting a reading culture.<\/p>\n<p>The photos show\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ies.sas.ac.uk\/about\/Staff\/drewshaw.htm\">Drew Shaw<\/a>, a visiting research fellow and lecturer at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.msu.ac.zw\/\">Midlands State University<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Eppel\">John Eppel<\/a>, a prolific Zimbabwean writer, with some of the Mambo poets at a recent public reading.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mambo Writers Circles\u00a0was established in 2005 at a workshop organized by the\u00a0Budding Writers Association of Zimbabwe\u00a0(BWAZ).
