Travel and car parking for 2009/2010

Please read the information below highlighting changes to car parking and how to apply for a permit for 2009/2010. All changes apply from October 1st 2009 when the new permit year commences.

The online car parking permit application will go live on Monday 14th September, when it can be accessed using the following link: https://www.cisinfo.lancs.ac.uk/permitapplication/Intro.aspx.

Permit prices. There are no changes to permit prices this year, apart from the Staff Car Share Permit which is reduced – see further below.

Car parking zones. There are no major changes to parking zones this year. However, some areas will be out of use for construction reasons. Details of these areas are available to view on the Car Parking Permit Application system. To view the parking zones map please see here: http://www.lancs.ac.uk/depts/estates/documents/Car%20parking%20zones%20map%20200910.pdf

Save even more with the improved staff car share permit. The cost of the Staff Car Share Permit has been reduced from £135 to £90 this year. The cost is to be shared between 2 and 5 car sharers. The permit is aimed at staff that can car share around 4 days per week throughout the year. Users of the Staff Car Share Permit are eligible to park in any zone on the campus. Staff registered on this new permit are entitled to claim 25 free one-day parking scratchcards each (pro-rata for part-time staff) to cover staff absences, emergencies, etc. This number of free scratchcards also allows registered users to car share 4 days a week and park free for the 5th day every week of the year. The Car Share Permit is transferable between the registered vehicles only. Staff should apply at the Car Parking Office, Security, rather than using the online permit application system. To qualify, each registered staff member must have held an annual car parking permit during 2008/09 or be a new member of staff. Can’t find a colleague to car share with? Then try searching for a match on the University’s Sharedwheels scheme.

Termly permits. Staff can purchase termly permits as an alternative to an annual permit. These offer Standard Zone parking only. These are particularly useful for temporary staff or new or departing staff that are not here for the full permit year. Termly permits also offer the opportunity of greater travel blending, e.g. driving in Autumn and Spring and cycling in the Summer Term. Termly permits are available from the Car Parking Office in Security, priced as follows: Autumn Term + vacation = £20, Spring Term + vacation = £20, Summer Term only = £20, Summer Vacation = £30. Termly permits are only available at the Car Parking Office, Security and cannot be applied for online.

15 x free one-day parking scratchcards for staff cyclists, walkers and bus commuters. 15 x free one-day parking scratchcards (pro-rata for part-time staff) are only available to staff that choose not to purchase an annual or termly car parking permit and whose main mode of travel to work is NOT by car. A member of staff cannot claim the 15 x free one-day scratchcards and purchase an annual or termly permit in the same permit year. These will therefore cater for regular bus, cycle or walking staff commuters. This offer is intended only for staff that are frequently commuting to the campus throughout the permit year. The scratchcards are for personal use only and cannot be used by departments or transferred onto any other vehicle other than the vehicle that is registered to the 15 x free scratchcards. Eligible staff must claim these in person at the Car Parking Office in the Security Lodge and do so by Christmas 2009. Part-time staff will only be eligible to a pro-rata equivalent that is relative to the number of weekdays usually worked each week. Working hours will be verified by the Car Parking Office. Non-University staff can apply but must provide evidence of employment to benefit. This can include a copy of the contract of employment or a recent payslip. The evidence must clearly indicate the number of hours or days in the week that are usually worked.

Car parking enforcement. Please be aware that parking enforcement operates as normal during all vacation periods, when parking charges and permit rules apply as normal. The clamp release fee remains at £50 per day.

Chancellors’ wharf. Permits for this area are identified as such and authorise the holder to park only at Chancellors Wharf. Main campus parking permits are NOT valid at Chancellors’ Wharf, unless a University fleet vehicle. New arrangements will apply when new parking signage is erected at Chancellors Wharf this Autumn, when further details will be made available to staff. More information.
