{"id":16,"date":"2020-11-05T11:20:16","date_gmt":"2020-11-05T11:20:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/users\/unite\/?page_id=16"},"modified":"2025-07-28T22:06:56","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T21:06:56","slug":"healthandsafety","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/users\/unite\/healthandsafety\/","title":{"rendered":"Health and Safety"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Unite Lancaster Branch has an active Health and Safety Committee.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We have monthly committee meetings to discuss the huge range of safety issues across campus and share experiences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All our Health and Safety Reps are supported to complete H+S Rep training either with Unite or the TUC. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We carry out regular Safety Inspections on departments, buildings or services. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We review accident and near-miss forms, speaking to members and investigating further where appropriate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We review and feedback on University Safety Policy, Procedures and Risk Assessments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A number of Reps attend, and joint chair, the Health and Safety Consultative Committee (HSCC)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Our Reps attend many Safety, Health &amp; Wellbeing (SHaW) Sub and Operational Committees.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We have a good working relationship with the Safety Office and work constructively with them and the University on all Safety Matters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Health and Safety Committee Members<ul><li>Chair and H+S Rep &#8211; Ian Curwen &#8211; <a href=\"mailto:i.curwen@lancaster.ac.uk\">i.curwen@lancaster.ac.uk<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Secretary &#8211; James Heard &#8211; <a href=\"mailto:j.heard@lancaster.ac.uk\">j.heard@lancaster.ac.uk<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>H+S Rep &#8211; Andy Baker &#8211; <a href=\"mailto:a.baker@lancaster.ac.uk\">a.baker@lancaster.ac.uk<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>H+S Rep &#8211; Jess Fisher &#8211; <a href=\"mailto:jessica.fisher@lancaster.ac.uk\">jessica.fisher@lancaster.ac.uk<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>H+S Rep &#8211; Tim Gregson &#8211; <a href=\"mailto:t.gregson@lancaster.ac.uk\">t.gregson@lancaster.ac.uk<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>H+S Rep &#8211; Eamon McLaughlin &#8211; <a href=\"mailto:e.mclaughlin@lancaster.ac.uk\">e.mclaughlin@lancaster.ac.uk<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a concern relating to any Health and Safety Issue on campus you can contact any of the reps above. As Health and Safety Reps we have a legal right to Investigate and Inspect any campus area and we can support Unite members, other Union members or non-members.
