Inspired by the growing number of new businesses being started by young entrepreneurs, Cotswold Fayre are hosting a competition for young entrepreneurs aged between 18-25 years old who have a new fine food product that they may be looking to bring to market.

You could win £1,500 of funding, a year of mentoring from company Founder, Paul Hargreaves plus help from Cotswold Fayre’s in-house designers to build a strong brand identity.

Student, Morgan Saunders is currently looking to form a team to take part in the Build a Country Challenge, this post is an invitation from Morgan to join his project team:

Do you have a winning solution for Digital Identity Management?

Do you want to compete in a prestigious international competition?

Do you have business experience or a business related degree?

Do you have an interest in programming or data science?

If you answered yes to any of the previous questions you may be interested in the Build a Country Challenge. I am forming a team, primarily of Lancaster Students, to compete in the Challenge.

What taking part involves:

  • Assisting with the generation of a practical solution to digital identity management.

What is the competition process?

If our idea makes it into the top three, we would be invited to speak at the 7th Follow The Entrepreneur Summit in Malta, 9th/10th July 2017. If our idea wins the challenge, €500,000 capital investment, coaching and mentoring would be the prize.

£10,000 to take the Environment Now Challenge!

Do you have a digital solution to an environmental challenge?

Following on from the recent Thinkspiration workshop hosted on campus by the Environment Now team we have some further details with regards to taking part in the Environment Now Challenge!

Through the Environment Now challenge you can apply for up to £10,000 to develop your idea and you’ll also receive mentoring, work experience and insight days with industry professionals help you make it happen.

To apply for the challenge you must:

  • Be aged 17-25 years old.
  • Use digital technology to solve an environmental issue
  • Be based within the UK
  • Be committed to completing project objectives within ten months
  • Have the passion to inspire other young people

PG Rise 2017

Why you should apply to PG Rise 2017…

PG Rise is a multi-disciplinary team-based research challenge for postgraduate researchers. The programme will involve exploring the market viability of world-leading research projects developed here at Lancaster University.

The programme will enable you to:

  • Develop your research skills
  • Enhance your employability
  • Work with world leading academics
  • Engage with real world projects
  • Build an invaluable network of contacts

…and that’s just to name a few! You’ll also be given a £500 research budget per team to complete the task!

Alan Jewitt

Managing Director of SYPO 

Alan trained as a computer programmer and is now founder of SYPO (Sell Your Products Online). Based in Kendal, SYPO are a web development company, providing web and desktop solutions to a customer base of SMEs. Alan first started learning about web development in 2000 and had his first customer in 2002. Initially working from home, he soon realised he needed more space, prompting a move into an office, allowing him to employ a team and provide proper support for his customers. Today SYPO has four full-time developers, providing web and desktop solutions.

Philip Coatesworth

Managing Director of Boatbridge

Philip came to LUMS in 1974 in an attempt to escape the corporate bureaucracy experienced in his previous employment. During his MA he set up a small van sales operation, delivering flowers and plants to local florists and garden centres, over the next 20 years this expanded into a large multi-site operation. Following the collapse of the business in 1995, Philip founded PYD which became the world’s largest specialist provider of crewed yacht delivery services. Phil is now involved in a wide range of SME support, graduate and undergraduate activities as well as, actively working, via his new company Boatbrige Ltd., on promoting a Shackleton leadership development programme.

Anshul Kapoor

Founding Director of Image Foundry Studios

Anshul started in business over 15 years ago with a IT recruitment company, recruiting IT professionals from overseas. However, in the aftermath of September 11th, the demand for overseas IT Professionals fell dramatically. This led to the business diversifying into website development, outsourcing work overseas. Then one day, in response to a customer query, Anshul added computer generated imagery to his business repertoire. Now as founder of a major CGI supplier, he works with property developers, architects, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom manufacturers and also TV and media companies.

Jonathan Shaw

Founding Partner and Managing Director of Anderton Gables

As the son of a builder, Jonathan has been surrounded by property and construction all his life. After working with his dad, renovating and developing property he went on to qualify as a Chartered Building Surveyor. Some years after qualifying and working for a number of international Property Consultancy firms, Jonathan identified a gap in the local market and went on to co-find Anderton Gables – a Commercial Building Surveyors and Project Development Consultants. Founded in 2007 and already expanding, their vision is to be the leading Building Consultancy in the North of England.

Founders’ Network: The Summit Event

Tech North are hosting an exciting conference aimed at all tech startup founders in the North of England. The Summit will take place on the 2nd of March 2017 in Sheffield. It brings world-class educators and speakers to the North of England for a day full of entrepreneurial education and peer-to-peer learning.

The day will take the form of a ‘pick-and-mix’ style conference, allowing you to tailor the day to suit your needs and stage of business. There will be practical workshops, one-to-one mentoring sessions with experienced entrepreneurs and a peer-to-peer unconference.

Deutsche Bank Awards for Creative Enterprise

Launch your creative career with £10,000 investment!

The Deutsche Bank Awards for Creative Enterprise is an awards programme for final year students and first year graduates. The aim of the programme is to provide financial and business support to help launch your creative career.

Winners will receive £10,000 investment in their idea, as well as enterprise training and business mentoring for one year to help with the launch of their creative business/project.

To apply you will need to submit a plan that details your project or business.

Deadline for submissions: Sunday 12th of March

University Entrepreneurs Challenge

Are you an entrepreneur with a brilliant business idea born out of your time at university?

Have you created a business whilst working in academia? 

Enter the University Entrepreneur’s Challenge and you could walk away with a cash prize, expert assistance, a professional promotional film highlighting your business and influential new contacts.

The challenge is run in conjunction with the prestigious Educate – North and UK Leadership Awards and Conference 2017. Sponsored by the Telegraph Media Group, the challenge aims to find the most innovative businesses that have been founded by graduates, undergraduates, postgraduates or staff from the HE sector across the North of England.

Santander Entrepreneurship Awards 2017

Opportunity to win up to £25,000 funding, mentoring and start-up support!

The UK’s largest student and graduate business pitching competition is back! This is your chance to win up to £25,000 funding, mentoring and start-up support.

Information Session: 6th of February, 12:30-1:30pm, George Fox LT5 (please note, change of venue from Charles Carter A17)

The Process

Stage one: You and your idea

This stage will involve the production of a two minute video pitch along with a completed business model canvas. These will be judged internally and two entries will then be submitted to Santander – one in each of the two competition categories: pre-revenue and post-revenue.

Stage two: Understanding your Business

Santander will shortlist up to 30 businesses to take part in regional heats, delivering a 5 minute pitch followed by Q&A.

Stage three: Growing your Business

Up to 12 businesses will reach stage 3. They will all receive £1,000 seed funding and be invited to attend an accelerator week to help prepare for the final event in London. The final will take place in October and involve the delivery of a 10 minute presentation followed by Q&A.

The Prize

Attractive prize packages for a pre-revenue and post-revenue winner and runner-up . Prize packages include between £10,000-£25,000 of equity-free seed funding, a fully funded intern, mentoring from one of the judges at the national final and additional support provided by Talent Cupboard such as free listings on their marketplace or e-commerce website hosting for several months.

What Next?

  • You can enter as a team or individual. Alumni must have graduated within the past 5 years.
  • Attend our Information Session on Monday the 6th of February, 12:30-1:30pm in George Fox LT 5. This session will include everything you need to know to prepare an entry for the competition – help you check your eligibility, understand the full process, find our what the judges will be looking for and ask any questions you may have. You can book on to the session through Target Connect.
