Baxendale Walter Colonel South Rhodesian Volunteers, died of wounds as a Prisoner of War, in East Africa, he emigrated to Rhodesia in 1895, and had a distinguished career, rising from the ranks and serving in several military campaigns, he was mayor of Bulawayo twice and competed at Bisley in 1902, and became PM of the Freemason's Lodge. His wife died in August 1913, leaving a son, who is staying with his uncle, Mr J J Baxendale, Confectioner, Stonewell, Lancaster, His father was the late Mr Jonathan Baxendale, confectioner and sweet manufacturer, Stonewell, Lancaster.

His brother, Mr Robert Bond, traveler and cutter for Mr W Birchall, tailor, Penny Street, Lancaster, is the last surviving member of a family of seven. Mrs Bond's brother Private Roper, has been wounded and is now at Oswestry, three cousins have been killed and many are serving.

He studied furniture design and has been assistant buyer for Messrs Heal and Sons, House furnishers, Tottenham Court Road, London. Formerly he was secretary of the Glasson Model Yatch Club. His brother Robert, a water polo player, and member of the Vale of Lune RUFC is now serving with the Royal Flying Corps, his eldest brother H, is in Milwaukee, and a younger brother Richard is at Woolwich Arsenal, London.

Butterworth William Private York and Lancaster Regiment missing since October 1914, presumed killed in action, address 4 Hinde Street, educated at National school, eldest son of Mr James Butterworth who has six sons and a brother in law serving or killed.

Father of six soldiers Mr James Butterworth, died from debility, caused by having three sons killed and two severely wounded in the war, in the opinion of Dr Aitken.
