A Doctoral Centre Offering a 4-Year Programme in Statistics and Operational Research.

What is STORi?

The STOR-i Centre for Doctoral Training is a joint venture between the departments of Mathematics and Statistics and Management Science. STOR-i offers a four-year PhD programme in Statistics and Operational Research (STOR) developed and delivered with industrial partners. The centre is based at Lancaster University and has about 14 MRes and 30 PhD students.

This is my STOR-i.

In summer 2016 I joined the STOR-i internship programme, an eight week endeavour in which I completed a supervised project. On the side I took courses in R and LaTeX; went to the weekly forum and became involved in the STOR-i agenda. In the end of the internship I gave a presentation on my project and talked through a poster I created. On the back of this internship I decided to join the STOR-i programme in 2017, where I am currently in my MRes year. In the first term I completed taught courses to gain the Mathematical Core of the PhD. These courses were supplemented by STOR601, a large course which covers training for research and industry. Training includes problem solving days, which are days taken by industrial partners which challenge us to work on a problem from start to end. In term 2 I continued with STOR601 and take a few additional Masterclasses. In the summer I completed my dissertation, which acted as a research proposal for my PhD.
