Task A - Text and performance

stick figure readingThe first thing to notice is that we are going to analyse dramatic texts in this part of the course. But most plays are written to be performed and so most drama critics have argued that it is performances which should be analysed, not texts.

 

What are the advantages and disadvantages of analysing (a) dramatic texts and (b) dramatic performances?
