Our Strengths and Past Success

Lancaster is one of the leading research universities in Britain, placed in the top 10 for research in the 2001 UK Research Assessment Exercise and in the top group of universities receiving research grants from the UK Research Councils and other funding agencies.

Since 2001, the Faculty of Health and Medicine has been successful in obtaining over £10m in research grants from UK Research Councils (specifically, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, Economic and Social Research Council, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, Medical Research Council), the Department of Health, leading charities and many other funding agencies.

The Faculty provides a home to many internationally renowned scholars and to a number of major research centres and groups including the International Observatory on End of Life Care, Combining Health Information, Computation and Statistics, the Centre for Disability Research and most recently, the Spectrum Centre for Mental Health Research, which focuses on developing effective psychological treatments for individuals with bipolar disorder.
