Research Interests

My major research interests are in Environmental Magnetism and Palaeomagnetism, for purposes of retrieving quantitative palaeoclimatic, palaeoenvironmental and dating information from the magnetic records of Quaternary terrestrial sediments (soils, dust, loess, lake sediments), deep-sea sediments, and pre-Quaternary rocks.

I am also involved in application of magnetic methods to environmental processes and problems, including: magnetic monitoring and sourcing of particulate pollutants (especially particles smaller than 5 micrometres in size, particularly hazardous to health); tracing of modern fluvial sediment sources; and magnetic ‘clean-up’ of contaminated waters. 
I currently lead the INQUA Working Group, 'DIRTMAP3' and the NERC-QUEST Working Group on Dust and Climate.
I am a member of the women in science, engineering and technology (SET) group.
