Welcome message from Professor Jane Taylor. University Dean, Academic Quality and Director, Institute for Curriculum Enhancement

Hi Everyone

Welcome to the Global Lancaster 2021 Undergraduate Research Conference. Thank you all for taking this opportunity to join and experience what it means to take part in a research conference.

Lancaster University has always had a strong tradition of delivering both excellent research, and a high quality teaching experience for our students. This conference aims to bring together the best of both of those worlds, enabling undergraduate students to present their own research findings.

This is our second annual UG conference at Lancaster University. This year we are pleased to expand our conference to a global event, and welcome students from across the Lancaster University partners in the UK and overseas.

Due to the Covid pandemic, the 2021 conference will be held wholly online, with all student research presentations in the format of online webpages. As well as contributions from undergraduate presenters, the conference also has a strong team of support students who have been busy in the background organising conference activities. I thank all presenters and support teams for their contributions, which are critical to delivering a successful event.

There will be plenty of opportunities during the week of the conference for presenters, support teams and delegates to interact and discuss the fascinating range of presentations on display. There will also be a series of daily talks and discussions on a range of topics, which you can either watch live, or as a recording after each event.

Being part of a conference offers something for all undergraduates, whether you are aiming for a career in research, or just finding out what research is taking place and making new connections with fellow students. I would encourage you all to join in the range conference activities as widely as you can, so that despite the Covid pandemic restrictions, this can prove to be an authentic research conference experience for everyone.

On behalf of myself and the conference organising team, we hope you will find this both an enjoyable and enlightening experience.
