UNESCO Chair in Gender Research Group

UNESCO appointed Professor Sylvia Walby to the UNESCO Chair in Gender Research in 2008 in order to develop policy-relevant research on gender equality and women's human rights around the world and to develop international networking to build capacity in this field.

The UNESCO Chair in Gender Research Group at Lancaster University is composed of those researchers who are working with the Chair.

A series of projects have been developed:

  • Gender and the financial crisis
  • Violence against women
  • Measuring equality
  • Gender equality policies

Supervision of research students, the development of graduate teaching, and engagement with training are further components of the work.

An annual UNESCO Gender Research lecture series starts in autumn 2010.

The personal web-site of Sylvia Walby provides details of her work before the launch of the Chair.
