Campo Bragola. Palace at. The central ornament of its upper story
is at p 5w, bit book. observe the Os with shield &
bird, the former merely inlaid, should be equal & truly drawn
the laurel wreath & bird in relief; The inlaid masonry very
delightful: The colouring of the main first story highly
curious. Vid figure below p 5w: The pillars are 1 and 3
shaft red Verona - capital white Istrian. 2 and 4
shafts white marble - capitals red Verona - that of
2 a very deep red, almost crimson. Then the
intermediate circles are 1 pale red, 4 paler almost
yellow: 2 and 3 the usual deep purple red porphyry
Affected Then of the finials, f, f, f are antique Roman heads:
Romanism (very puzzling; note letters S P Q R as if cut from affectation
in Venice on a certainly modern cistern in the cortile) while the other
two are the common leaf & twist, and an early form.
R Capitals. The shaft capitals are remarkable fine examples of the pure
R: excessively elaborate, with very small dogtooth and
the roses almost unique, complete flowers and very large
projecting boldly from the bell. Their section p 5 w l
a transition R The bases are simple leaf: undecorated
The shafts are the same in upper story. but the window
arches have no finials. For cusps of Lower (main) story
and further detail, p 6 w bit book.
