St M. Matre Domini. The beautiful 2nd order house daged
The cusp on the left has head in centre between sun and
moon; and bold 4 lobed roses, very bulging; the others
have leaves in centre. The capitals 1 section of do 2
plan of do 3 and base of shaft (very unusual: and rather
doubtful: I did not get up to it) 4: p 42 door book
The square part of it is a pedestal. I think added.
The capital is remarkable for its excessively delicate
fillet.
Pointed Early Gate in Salizzada di San Lio: between S.M.Formosa and
Rialto. P. 46 l door book, profile of side jamb head
in stone all else brick: at p 46 top on same scale:
all is brick except shield which is defaced a fragment
of dentil only left; it is very delightful to see the
neat way in which the brick borders it. p 47 l fig l
This house has had an upper tier of windows now gone, with the general look; From a to b is nearly two feet and
same plinth below as the small pair; and two fragments of from b to c 8 to nine.
exquisite Byzantine work are in the walls. This gateway is high; and admits into a small court;
it is part of a noble old house, of which only the pair of
small windows are left; fig 2 p 47 l. I think the
prettiest of their kind in Venice, their stilt is much
clearer and truer than I have drawn it and their archivolt
moulding should be a little broader; shaft and all, they
are not above 6 feet high if so much, but nice and deep.
