FRARI.
Pisano’s, I believe it neither one nor the other, are
his. Note. the Dominican churches for comparison St
Agostino in Padua and Anastasia Verona.
(5) Frari. The Franciscans came to Venice after death of St
4 1250 Francis in 1227 to establish their rule there.
After much preparation, the first stone was laid in 1250
Called Ca’ Grande, as the largest of these dedicated to
the Virgine de Frari, or Frati Minori. In 1280
Nicolas 4th granted indulgences to whoever would

Paolo Savelli. The condottier, spent much money on
the vaulting (volte) He sleeps there. The doge Gradenigo
left money for it. Another Gradenigo erected 4 columns
with their pilasters: The Doge Francesco Dandolo, who
reigned from 1328 to 1338 finished it with his own
money; it was not however it appears finished till after
his death, nor consecrated till 1492.
The Tower was begun by the patrician Tommaso Viero
and finished by the merchants of Monza and Milan who
sojourned (stragiavano) a Venezia; in 1396.
The bas relief over lateral door they ascribe to Parrebbe
of the school of the Leopardo.
