Doges Palace. Bettio’s account setting aside his assump-
tions that it is Salundario’s work, is all right as far
as page 10. but then comes his curious blunder in his
desire to correct Crecognans. The former is indeed
wrong in saying dopo le prima sei secate; right in mark-
ing the beginning of the sala del Socraturio and Bettio
has missed the real place of junction in his desire to
correct Cicoguana - himself concluding that the larger
column is the mark of it.
A But, if as I once fancied, there was an arcade all round
Calendono, work, this larger column ought indeed to have
been at the angle This is a great puzzle.

facade to the Foscari p 3o9 and consider the top of the
campanile worked in same way.

Next½ Bettio supposes that from the two great arches, there
was a grand staircase down, and at p 27, 2u he gets very
interesting, quoting mention in Swiss Chronicle of the
