here and there in unseemly patches: mixed with the dull
brick red of the stucco, the colours mildewed or darkened
and the projections rubbed or broken away there is not
a single line of the composition which has its intended

the angels with instruments have much of the Angelico
quality and appear the best part of the monument: the
B[V]aptism behind is mannered yet graceful - the attendant
angels are numerous: and in their action and in their
full draperies they are more like women, but for
their richly plumed wings. The sarcophagus itself is
the worst - the composition of the resurrection very
vile; the descent into hell somewhat better, but the
arrnagement of the whole thoroughly meagre and bad, and
richly meriting Selva’s condemnation.
