or sharp cutting - all is heavy, cheap and brainless
and the letters above are twice as large. This figure poin
up with the finger of the right hand; like the other and
has a kind of collar like a man's about her neck.
4. a monk in same position with the left hand begins Pa
ci - i.e. Pacientia, as on the 7th cap.
5. Desperatio, a woman tearing her hair, or at least pull-
ing it out in two long curls, on each side, utterly
without expression,
6 Obedience; same as the other obedientia. but instead
of meekness a mere insipid grij on the face
The dog however is not bad; shearply enough cut,
though and small, with its paws folded in same way over
breast and with the round cattle be[i]lls about its neck
7. Infidelitas with child's image: a turbaned figure
staring utterly devoid of expression.
8. Modesty, a little better, female - well featured - with
a vase like a coffee pot.
The Twenty ninth. The same series as the ninth. but the
inscriptions clearer: 1 Fides. 2 Fortitude. taming lion
(vivilis (sum virilis or vincirilis?)
