the dark mountain chain, countless in its serations, and
gathering together of pointed peaks, lay as sharp and
shattered against the amber air, as if it had been a
mass of near Highland hills.

in the pinnacles of the great (west?) door the
pannel fleur de lys foliation, drawn in no looking like
some of thw abortions of dying Gothic in France: Yet
this, h[g]ere, is evidently a modification of the Byzantine
or Lomb[h]ard double arch, so often found in St Mark’s,
as on the left of my elaborate drawing: and agin in the
curious Byzantine palace down the grand canal near Rialto.
