FONDACO DE TURCHI
so[O]me having eight some nine, some 12 dentils of a side, the
corner one inclusive which counts one on both side: In
the arch facing: there is an interval next abacus on each
side, and then generally, 28 projecting dentils round the
arch: there are therefore 29 intervals. The great main-
shafts of the lower story have their bases mostly buried;
two emergent give me the section opposite fig 1 with
usual triangular leaf from the roll: yet so far simpler
than even those above that these leaves have no rib and
are also quite flat: no rise at the end. They looked
rather different also in proportion, seeming to the eye
as if the base of the leaf a b, fig 2 opposite, occupied
about 6 in and the interval a c about 12. By the
measure of the length of the rib on last page I may
get theproportion.
Finally note in No 36 The red section fig 8 is taken on the
line a of fig 6, to show that the fillet edge instead of
retreating comes forward at f a singular character.
Fig 9 is the angle roll larger, and fig 10 another
beautiful capital entirely cut in, upon a truple bell: The
leaves are little more than forms left by lines of well
disposed triangular notches: with furrows between
each: the plan of the capital at the top is of course
[d]fig 3 opposite. This is swept down to the circular shaft
in a series of curves perfectly exquisite - of which the
one ar 1 1 is an accurate example
