[vertical orientation]

				Façade of Doges Palace next
				Central Balcony of ^ Piazzetta
[diagrams] 1,2,3 Balcony itself [unusually richer?] than the others

				- its upper plinth. 1; its middle - in one [place?] 2.
in another 3. - all its cutting inferior - and
the foils of its long 4 foils sometimes , as I have
drawn them - within the ridges - sometimes cutting
right into the ridge It is I think - except where restored
the oldest of the two - a bad work of the late Gothic time - which the
other is a refined renaissance copy of it.
		narrow
Two neutral tinted ^ marble shafts on each side. as in the other - shafts & bases,
- running along entire soffit - and with a leaf plinth above.
The cutting something tolerably good & heads not brutal - though vulgar renderings
of fair models - I put these capitals to a late time - perhaps the latest good work
The spiral shafts of the niches have a roll - rough chiselled, and ridge alternately

- they have rude round capitals [drawing] [drawing] [writing on reverse of sheet]
the role rough chiselled
the niches have good pure pointed
trefoils on the Frari section [diagram]
the roll forming the angle.
but their finials have fallen off
and been replaced by rough cut pears - thus ! [drawing]
one of the rose and leaf plinths above

The statues under these niches, and those on each
side of the great main arch (which is of the usual
main section with flanked dentil, ass the other towards sea - ) I believe all are
  utterly
but bad though coarse & common place & I believe all to be of the last decent time
of Venetian Gothic + But above their niches come from childrens perfectly
brutal - and beastly - and all above this is of the coarsest & vilest
renaissance Gothic pinnacles & all + say a little later than Porta della
					Carta . in same style
Window next piazetta. k.
Lions heads intermediate neither door knocker nor fine model
[drawing] - leaves not so bad. Tracery marks ass if chiselled away
Bases all broken to pieces. section always same.
		- vile pils . & new plinth. I have no doubt has been
		as windows to front
Porta della Carta

2. female heads a little better. than front but very bad these exactly same as k.
but more damaged as if by fire & held together by iron. even the
new pilaster cracked through. . and cemented
m. exactly same. lions heads a little better & leaves good - Bases [terrifically?]
damaged - hardly a trace of their sides left -
n. same - exactly lions heads. I can’t be sure of tracery in these windows
no sockets left - only chiselling
								   (o)
[diagram]	The last window - behind the porta della Carta ^ has most
luckily - its spiral flanking shafts left which have the bold capitals
to carry tracery & lions head - like the others & section below
as here - and chiselling is evidently only rough / or cement
