St Gothard is a pass in the Alps Mountain Range, east of Interlachen. Ruskin 's visits to St Gothard included those of 1835, 1845, 1858 and 1862. Ruskin describes Turner 's representation of the pass in the third and fourth volumes of Modern Painters ( Works, 5.296; 6.34).
