The Miscellaneous Prose Works of Sir Walter Scott

Ruskin 's references in Modern Painters I are always to the 28-volume edition, published by Cadell (1834-36), with 40 steel-engraved illustrations by Turner. This was a companion edition to Cadell's 12-volume edition of The Poetical Works of Sir Walter Scott (1834), also illustrated by Turner. Ruskin frequently refers to these collectively as the illustrations to Scott.
