Turner showed four oils (in two pairs) of Venice, of the same size, at the exhibited Royal Academy in 1845: Venice, evening, going to the ball; Morning, returning from the ball; Venice - noon; Venice - sunset, a fisher (all Turner Bequest, Tate Britain, Wilton P416-419). It is not clear to which Ruskin is referring.

Provenance: Painted for Francis McCracken of Belfast; returned to the artist by mid-1846; Turner Bequest, 1856
Further Comments: It is not clear to which painting exhibited in 1845 Ruskin is referring. Aswell as 'Venice: Morning, returning from the ball', Ruskin could have been talking about 'Venice, evening going to the Ball', 'Venice:Noon', or 'Venice:Sunset', all of which were a similar size and at the same exhibition. They are now at the Tate Gallery, London.
