Turner 's Apollo and Daphne, oil on canvas, exhibited Royal Academy 1837, Turner Bequest, Tate Britain ( Wilton P369). The catalogue carried verses from Ovid's Metamorphoses, in the translation by John Dryden. Ruskin gives a long description of the picture in his Notes on the Turner Gallery at Marlborough House (1857) ( Works, 13.148-150).
