Turner 's Goldau, watercolour, 1843, Private Collection ( Wilton 1537).

Commissioned by Ruskin and John James Ruskin, this was one of his favourites among their collection of Turner's works. It was later engraved by J. Cousen as an illustration to Modern Painters IV (Plate 50), where its colour symbolism and geology are discussed at length ( Works, 6.378-381).
