Friedrich Overbeck (1789-1869). German artist, leader and founder member with Franz Pforr of the Nazarener or Nazarenes. Studied in Vienna and founded the Lukasbrüderschaft (brotherhood of St Luke). Lived mainly in Rome from 1810. Painted in fresco and works derivative of Perugino and Raphael. Influenced Pre-Raphaelites through his association with William Dyce. (See Ruskin and Overbeck).
