Lockhart

John Gibson Lockhart (1794-1854) son-in-law of Sir Walter Scott, whose biography he wrote. Having trained as a lawyer, he became a major contributor to Blackwood's Magazine where he joined with John Wilson in attacking the 'Cockney School' of literature (a term coined by Blackwood's) and which included John Keats, Leigh Hunt and William Hazlitt. Lockhart became editor of the Quarterly Review from 1825-1852.
