The Springer Book Series “Research in Networked Learning“ is devoted to high quality research focused monographs and edited volumes on all topics and areas related to networked learning. A Call for Proposals can be found on the book series web page.

The field of Networked Learning has been emerging as an exciting and innovative area of work since the 1990’s. It now includes a very active community of researchers investigating the nexus and connections between learners and the use of digital resources, communication and tools in higher education, along with the underpinning theory, practice and pedagogy of such use.

Networked Learning has become a highly relevant area of research and thinking in our networked and digital world. Networked learning is generally restricted to learning that is mediated by digital networks, including social networking and other Web 2/3 virtual spaces that support user interaction and content generation.

A major theme of the Book Series to date has been on the theory, pedagogy and practice of networked learning, which is concerned with developing approaches to learning that encourage and support learners to be critical and ethically responsible citizens in both their practice and lives.

The educational philosophy of networked learning that has thus emerged is often aligned with those educational theories and approaches linked to radical emancipatory and humanistic educational ideas and approaches. Networked Learning is frequently seen to embrace principles associated with areas of educational thinking, such as critical and inquiry led pedagogy together with democratic and experiential learning. On the other hand as the field has developed it has adopted socio-cultural thinking to explore the design and experience of networked learning. More recently, the impact of socio materiality and post humanist thinking have emerged as other lens with which to examine a field where the social and the material interact in dynamic and complex entanglements.

The book series welcomes proposals that explore networked learning from any of the above perspectives or theories as well as others considered relevant or important to understanding and developing research in networked learning
