Meeting Start

Community Rep System

Considering getting rid of the Community Officer with the alternative being reforming the role as it currently is not very effective. If the role were to change then the following changes would be made:

  • Ask if members if they feel that their games are being represented
  • Levy the social media accounts to members for occasional streams

Currently, the Community Officer has helped groups of members get equipment out of storage

Streaming to Twitch may help the Society gain members according to member feedback. This also would be good for Freshers and also helps give notice to smaller groups

Actionable, motion was not voted upon

Direction of the Society

Roses

  • A group of people interested in CS:GO wanted to play for the Society during Roses but were unaware of when Roses was and how to go about this
  • Miscommunication with the CS:GO A-team lead to the team not being able to play at Roses, despite the team seemingly wanting to do so

LAN parties

  • According to member feedback, the LAN parties, while enjoyable, have a small turnout
  • Member feedback also indicates a desire for more LAN parties
  • Considering whether it would be more ideal to have small groups of people sort themselves out in terms of what they want to play or to have large, room-based events
  • The idea of a 36-hour LAN party was proposed, however, member feedback was mixed with a slight inclination opposing the idea
  • Members have expressed a desire for more LAN party posters to advertise the events when they occur
  • Members expressed concern over what benefits longer LAN parties would serve
  • General feedback has stated that the first LAN party, while large wasn’t very enjoyable
  • Considering having a larger focus on multi-player games at LAN parties
  • One advantage of having a longer LAN would be that we could run more events

Socials

  • Member feedback stated that the County Social would be better suited to a Tuesday rather than a Friday as they have been recently
  • Considering starting the events earlier, perhaps at 7pm instead of 8pm
  • Considered having the County Social on other weekdays but there would be clashes with other societies on everyday except for Tuesdays

Pendle Games Night

  • Need to have a heavier focus on making sure that people don’t abandon one aspect of the event, e.g. Rockband, in favour of a different one
  • Considering doing an event like Pendle Games Night in Grizedale, however due to equipment constraints, we would not be able to set up Rockband at such a social

Consoles

  • Considering getting a Society gaming laptop
  • Need to figure out what we will use the society money for

General comments

  • New Esports jerseys will be available soon
  • Clarified that to go on the Alton Towers trip, you would need to be a University member
  • Considering streaming Jackbox playthroughs at County Socials but would need to sort out voice input equipment
  • Could have Jackbox streams as they’re own separate event, perhaps as part of the reformed Community Rep system

Additional Notes

Katie Stevenson, Karen Cheung and Henry Potts had to be warned to be quiet during the meeting
